Crash of firefighter plane LV-CGS
In August 2024, an Air Tractor AT-802 firefighting aircraft, registration LV-CGS, piloted by 52-year-old Rolando "Roly" Rasmussen, crashed in the Sierra de Velasco region of La Rioja, Argentina, during wildfire suppression operations.
The aircraft lost contact on August 19, prompting a complex search due to challenging terrain and adverse weather.
After three days, the wreckage was located with signs of fire damage, and Rasmussen's body was found nearby. A seasoned pilot with over 26 years in aerial applications, Rasmussen was known for his dedication to combating forest fires.
